Peruvian CFG Investment obtains Friend of the Sea certification for fishmeal and fish oil
CFG Investment – one of the world’s largest producers of fishmeal and fish oil – has recently obtained the Friend of the Sea certification for fish meal and fish oil originating from healthy stocks of Peruvian anchovies. The company complies with all Friend of the Sea requirements and can display the official seal of approval on its products.
The company’s fleet catches anchovies in the Southeastern part of the Pacific Ocean by means of purse seine method, without affecting the seabed and in compliance with the Marine Protected Areas regulation. Bycatch is minimal and does not include any IUCN red list species.
CFG Investment has also invested in an efficient waste management system that allows the company to recycle, re-use or reprocess all materials used during fishing, conservation and transport of the fish up to the selling point, including packaging. Furthermore, the company doesn’t use any toxic, persistent or bioaccumulative substances during its fishing activities.
“We are very proud to have achieved the Friend of the Sea certification, as it sends out a powerful message to our clients regarding our strong commitment to the preservation of the marine environment,” explains Olenka Espinoza, Quality Manager at CFG Investment. “Our Group holds the largest quota for the harvest of anchovies in Peru and it is important for us to make our customers aware that our products come from sustainable fisheries and comply with the highest certification standards.”
CFG Investment, a subsidiary of China Fishery Group Limited and located in Lima, Peru, is one of the world’s largest producers of fishmeal and fish oil. The Group holds the largest quota for the harvest of Anchovy in Peru and exports its fishmeal and fish oil worldwide, including Europe and China.
